HALLOWEEN TREATS!

Totally tried my best to come up with some healthy snacks for Halloween this weekend! And I did!! And I shared it on my fitness Facebook page (www.facebook.com/shapeupwithsheppy). Now, although I found those healthy snacks and I'm all about fitness, I wanted to make something BAD!! Lol yes. That's right. Balance baby.

So I decided to make some Caramel Apples for the kids and one for me and Steve to share! Also, decided to whip up some little rice crispie pumpkins! Super cute and who doesn't love a rice crispie treat? 


I used tootsie rolls for the stems of the pumpkins, spearmint leaf candies for the lead and added quite a bit of red and yellow food colouring to get the color orange just right! But ultimately took me like 15 mins!! Quick and fun snack. 

The Caramel Apples however, took a while and made a HUGE MESS!!!!!! 


I didn't have a lot of trouble getting the caramel to stick because I first cleaned the wax off the apples with baking soda, then I chilled the apples for a hour or so in the fridge. Once the caramel hit the cold apple it set. Great. Only thing is.....I TOTALLY forgot to immediately stock them in the salt and the Reese pieces crumbs. I realized this after the caramel had set. Duh Jen. Duh. But anyways, first time you learn. So learn from my mistake. Lol get organized before you begin. And limit distractions. That helps too!! 

I decided to melt chocolate chips and drizzle over top and then add some of the Reese to stick to that. The finished product looks much cuter in the little bags but what a mess I made in the kitchen. Worth it? Meh. I dunno lol
